Description

Ken Griffey, Glove Radar Turn any ballglove into a radar speed gun.

The Glove Radar® is a small, inexpensive, accurate microwave Doppler radar that attaches to the back of virtually any baseball or softball glove, “sees” through the glove, and measures the speed of the ball, thrown from any distance, just before it is caught in the glove. It is a valuable training aid in helping develop the throwing skills of infielders, outfielders, and catchers as well as pitchers.

The Glove Radar® provides immediate feedback to reinforce instructions for proper throwing mechanics. When players learn how to prepare to throw, warm-up correctly, and develop proper throwing mechanics, they will achieve their best velocity and accuracy with the least probability of injury to their arm, shoulder, elbow or body. The Glove Radar® is a big hit among coaches, players and parents, and all have fun using it. An additional person is not required to hold a speed measuring device since one or more of the persons tossing can wear the device on their glove. The rugged Glove Radar®, when properly attached to the back of a ball glove, can withstand baseball impacts at speeds over 100 mph and softball impacts at over 75 mph. Just a fraction of the cost of most radar guns, the Glove Radar® is only $79.95.

The Glove Radar™ can aid any player - infielders and outfielders, as well as pitchers and catchers, throwing from any distance. Professional and amateur players can use the Glove Radar™ when warming-up. Young ballplayers will benefit from velocity information when tossing or training, and will have fun using it. It helps develop players' throwing ability by providing accurate velocity feedback from 20-120 mph! By providing actual velocity data to reinforce coaching instruction, the Glove Radar is a great training device to help develop throwing mechanics.

The Glove Radar® maximizes throwing performance while curtailing arm strain and overuse for players of all levels. How does Glove Radar® accomplish this? First, Glove Radar® verifies and reinforces proper throwing mechanics by giving objective performance measurement, i.e., digital readout of throwing speed. Second, the ability to measure performance makes it possible to regulate throwing intensity. This means establishing and enforcing limits on the strain a player places on the throwing arm.

Glove Radar® makes a player a better thrower by helping teach and improve technique and making practice both effective and controlled to reduce the risk of injury. Aside from its undeniable value as a training tool, Glove Radar® is fun to use. The expression most often used by the players is "awesome".

How coaches, players, and parents can utilize Glove Radar®:

LEARN THROWING FUNDAMENTALS. For beginners, the body turn, weight transfer, follow-through and other fundamentals are difficult to grasp. However, when these concepts are demonstrated and taught as individual steps—with measured improvements in performance for each step as verified by Glove Radar® —youngsters will learn more quickly and repeat the desired fundamentals. They enthusiastically receive instructions as they see positive results.

IMPROVE THROWING TECHNIQUE. For all young players, speed measurement aids continued improvement in fundamentals and technique—in other words, attaining proper biomechanics and developing greater throwing speed and power. Glove Radar® confirms what works and what does not work for each player, and progress can be readily tracked.

DEVELOP THROWING EFFICIENCY. From beginning players on up, learning to throw efficiently is at least as important as learning to throw harder. Efficiency means finding the motion and effort level for each player that produce the best results in relation to arm stress. Before Glove Radar®, a player might equate "throwing harder" with a motion that "feels" the hardest, i.e., the most stressful. Finding out how velocity is affected by changes in throwing mechanics and effort—and striking the proper balance between velocity and arm stress—requires a convenient means of accurately measuring speed as provided by Glove Radar®.

LIMIT ARM STRESS. Players at all levels should refrain from throwing their hardest day after day. Glove Radar® enables a player’s maximum throwing range to be determined. This information can then be used to establish a speed threshold that the player should not exceed in off-day throwing sessions. By setting and enforcing velocity limits, Glove Radar® removes the guesswork from this vital facet of safely developing throwing skills.

Testimonials

Ken Griffey Jr., Cincinnati Reds
The Glove Radar will help improve your throwing skills with accurate Doppler radar speed measurements!

Pat Tabler, Ex-Major Leaguer, AABC coach
The Glove Radar is a great teaching tool. I coach a 12-year old team and the kids can't get enough of it. When the kids get the proper mechanics down, you see their velocity go up.

Pete Vonich, Coach and parent of 7-year old
I was looking for something that was easy to use, durable, accurate, and economical. I have not been disappointed! It is a very effective tool that allows my son to monitor his development and gives him the incentive to keep working at his pitching mechanics.

George Martin, Pro scout and HS coach
It has proven to be as accurate as any radar gun that I have used in the past twelve years.

Chris Welsh, Former Major League pitcher
A very useful tool that can help developing pitchers and their coaches. It helps in bullpen workouts by accurately measuring pitch speeds.

Bill Long, Former White Sox pitcher
The immediate feedback to the pitchers is great! This product has a role at every level.

Paul Mueller, Former Houston Astros scout
I have found the Glove Radar to be extremely accurate when appropriately compared to the release speed and RA guns commonly used by baseball scouts.

Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS THE GLOVE RADAR®?
The Glove Radar® is a small, inexpensive microwave Doppler radar velocity sensor which is attached to a baseball or softball glove to measure the speed of the ball just before it is caught.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE GLOVE RADAR®?
It will assist in developing baseball and softball players' throwing capabilities by providing a measure of velocity improvement which results from using proper throwing techniques. The Glove Radar® can aid any player--infielders and outfielders, as well as pitchers and catchers, throwing from any distance. This miniature device is worn on the glove of the receiver of the ball during practice, training, tossing and warm-up sessions. It not only is a great training tool but everyone has fun using it too.

HOW DOES THE GLOVE RADAR® WORK?
The Glove Radar® is truly a microwave Doppler radar, not an impact sensor; nor is it a timer which depends upon a precise throwing distance for accuracy. Attached to the back of a ball glove, it measures the speed of the approaching ball a few feet before it is caught. It "sees" through the ball glove, which is essentially transparent to the microwave energy, even though the transmission level is extremely low. Operating with power from a single-cell three volt lithium battery, the Glove Radar® transmission level is much less than that of most conventional "wireless" electronics control and communications products, such as cellular 'phones.

HOW DOES IT ATTACH?
The Glove Radar attaches to any glove - large or small, baseball or softball - by a strong, weather-resistant nylon cord. The cord is inserted through the Glove Radar's three eyelets, and then secured around the glove's lacing or wrist strap and tied into place behind the glove's fingers, where the Glove Radar can survive the pounding of repeated ball impacts.

HOW DO I USE IT?
1.) Attach the Glove Radar to a glove. 2.) Press the "on" switch to energize the radar transmitter. The MPH display will show the last velocity reading. 3.) Press the "on" switch a second time. Two flashing zeroes indicate that the radar is transmitting. The Glove Radar is now ready to use. 4.) After the ball is caught, observe the MPH display to read the ball speed. 5.) Before returning the ball back to the thrower, reset the radar transmitter by depressing the "on" switch, which is large and conveniently located so that it can be found and depressed without actually looking at it. Note: If the next throw does not occur within 20 seconds, the power saving timer will turn off the radar transmitter. The Glove Radar automatically goes into sleep mode to conserve battery power after one minute of inactivity.

Glove RadarDON'T OTHER DEVICES MEASURE BALL SPEED?
Radar "speed guns" used for sports applications are excellent devices but typically cost $400-$700 or more, and are therefore not generally affordable for individual players, coaches and parents. They are also an unaffordable luxury for most amateur teams. The Glove Radar® is an inexpensive radar velocity sensor that fills this void.

HOW ACCURATE IS THE GLOVE RADAR®?
The Glove Radar® typically measures ball speed within plus or minus one mile per hour of popular "radar speed guns" adjacently located and measuring velocity over a comparable flight path. The most important consideration in using any velocity sensor is to be consistent in its use so that comparative measurements are relative to those preceding and following.

HOW DOES THE GLOVE RADAR® ACTUALLY HELP YOUNGSTERS LEARN HOW TO THROW?
The inventor has personally used early development models of the Glove Radar® with young grandsons, age 6 and 8, and a granddaughter, age 11. Teaching the proper throwing techniques can be a real challenge with youngsters this age, but when they see the increase in speed which can be achieved by throwing "the right way", they are very anxious to apply the coaches instructions. All players want to know how fast they throw, and how to increase their speed!! However, increased speed is not the only result of learning proper throwing techniques--consistency, improved accuracy and less arm strain can also be achieved.
