Every year more than a thousand players get
drafted into professional baseball. About five of them will end up having
memorable careers. Why do those five players make it?
Prospect is a groundbreaking DVD for players, coaches and parents that are
serious about baseball. It documents the elements, both physical and mental,
that make it possible for a player to rise to the top of the game. "I made the
movie I needed to see when I was in high school and college", says filmmaker and
former Division I college player Rich Stephenson. This 90-minute informational
documentary features over 30 college coaches, professional scouts, managers and
baseball players.
Volume 1 gives insight into the infrastructure
and processes college coaches and pro scouts use to evaluate pitchers and
position players. It covers the five tools, the structure of scouting, and the
amateur draft. Volume 2 documents the structure of the minor leagues and the
process of how players are prepared for the big leagues. It deals with the
mental processes players use to get the edge in the face of fierce competition
for the greatest job on Earth.
"This movie prepares you not only for
professional baseball, but for college baseball and even high school baseball,"
says David Wright of the New York Mets. "It's like a
pyramid, everybody plays baseball growing up in Little League and it just gets
narrower and narrower towards the top and it just weeds players out. This movie
really helps you out with the mental side and gives you what to expect going up
the chain."
